Punggol Nasi Lemak

The thing about nasi lemak is that i try to avoid it as much and as long as possible because of the fact that it is a very unhealthy delicacy. I scare of 三高 if i indulge in unhealthy diet and such delicious dish like the punggol nasi lemak can really tempt you to come back for more. By the way, for english audiences, 三高 is a short form for 3 highs (high blood pressure, high cholesterol and high blood sugar). If you ask me how often do i eat high-fat delicacy like nasi lemak, i would say twice a year...or maybe unless a friend ask me out for those kinds of meals and on rare occasions i agreed to it.

A few weeks back, i had a band jamming session with my friends at Kovan area and we plan to have dinner together prior, that's when one of my friend introduce us to punggol nasi lemak around Upper Serangoon Road which is a 15mins walk from Kovan MRT.

The store occupies the area of two stores space and its brightly-lit red signboard will make sure you will instantly recognized the store. The queue is very long when we reach, looks like more than 30 pax forming the long chain of queue in front of us and we waited around 25mins before our turn to order comes. Luckily, we also chop seat prior if not confirm GG😭

You can either order their fix sets and top up other stuffs if you want to or order misc like when you order mixed vegetables rice (菜饭). For me i ordered:

  • Set 1 ($4.80)
  • Spicy lady's finger ($1.20)

The fried chicken wing is very crispy, does not taste over-fried and meat is tender. Rice texture is very nice too and i think it taste like pure coconut milk itself🤤 I was recommended to try the lady's finger and one taste i know this one is confirm skillfully stir fried one! I personally think this is one great nasi lemak to enjoy with yr friends & family, not recomended for solo food hunters as confirm no seats.

After our hearty main course dinner, we added another plate of fried oyster omelette from another store and we are so full that we couldn't finish that one serving. We guess our stomach shrunk in size as we age and kind of regret because our jam session is starting in less than 30 minutes time. Me and another female friend were literally holding our burp while we take turns singing, and it feels awful...the high notes feels like an open passage for our internal funny gases to rush out😂 Lesson learnt, either we have an early dinner with at least 1 hour to digest then music jam or have a small meal instead plus a cup of lime juice!
